Beauty and the Beast

January 2011.
Drawn with brown Prismacolor marker and painted with watercolor. I was inspired by the fairy tale Beauty and the Beast.
Detail. There's some very fine pen & ink linework that is barely visible but adds some texture.

Dragon Doodle

Pen. July, 2012.
I have only rarely attempted dragons (and then usually only in silhouette) but was suddenly struck by the impulse the other day, and that's how this came about. Add it to my to-do list to fine tune it and tackle it in color. I'm fairly happy with this; should not have put in so much detail for such an imperfect drawing but I think I got the idea across. Mostly what inspired me to draw a dragon was seeing all of the dragon imagery on Pinterest and being disappointed that none of it quite fit my mental picture of what a dragon should look like. Additional inspiration came from a favorite childhood read of mine, The Two Princesses of Bamarre by Gail Carson Levine, which happens to feature a dragon with a lot of personality.
This was doodled in pen in a 5 1/2" x 8 1/2" sketchbook.

Princess and a Castle

Graphite. December, 2011.
Drawn without any particular fairy tale in mind. I really ought to have used reference; there are some flaws in proportions, her hand, and her skirt. But it was a fun style to try out.

Yes, that's a Styrofoam cup. Yes, I doodled all over it with a pen.
Here's a closer look:
